March 2012 is Social Work Month

Every year, the National Association of Social Workers takes time to honor its membership across the country with the observance of National Social Work Month.

The 2012 Social Work Month theme is "Social Work Matters," promoting the instrumental roles social workers play in a number of fields of practice. The theme highlights the significant way social workers utilize specialized skills and resources to identify, protect, and improve the lives of those that are most vulnerable. To acknowledge Social Work Month at HSS, the Department of Social Work Programs is sponsoring several events, consistent with this year’s theme.

A lecture is open to all staff, "The Role of the Healthcare Team in Responding to Domestic Violence: Being a Bridge to Services and Safety" presented by Stavroula Kyriakakis, BS, MS, PhD on Wednesday, March 28 from 2 pm - 3:30 pm in the Richard L. Menschel Education Center, 2nd Floor. To reserve by Friday, March 23, please contact Jillian Rose, at ext:1952, or rosej@hss.edu, or Kathryn Klingenstein, at ext:7378, or klingensteink@hss.edu!

In addition, information tables will be available during the following times, highlighting the role of HSS social workers and the many programs offered to our patients and their families, as well as serving diverse communities locally, regionally, and nationally.
