Developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) – also known as congenital dysplasia of the hip (CDH) – is the term used to describe a broad spectrum of abnormalities of the hip joint (e.g., hip dislocation, subluxation, coxa vara) that may be present around the time of birth or may present during childhood. AbnExamples of these abnormalities include sublaxation, abnormal hip alignment. It is typically characterized by abnormal formation of the hip joint, in which the ball on top of the thighbone (femur) is not held firmly in the socket. Treatment can include Pavlik harness, arthrogram, closed reduction, open reduction, and pelvic osteotomy.
