Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS)

Ankylosing Spondylitis is a chronic inflammatory disorder of unknown origin that primarily affects the spine, sternum, and large joints in the body. The most distinctive feature of this condition is markedly decreased spine motion resulting from inflammation, with ultimate fusion of the spine. Most commonly, those with this disorder experience lower back pain, morning stiffness, and limited motion, symptoms which are typically improved by exercise and worsened after sleep or prolonged rest.
